Take me to church

The red and black bricks on this beautiful church building are faded now, when it was first complete they would have created a colourful addition to the streetscape.

The original congregation of this church met in three different buildings before the present church was built in 1867-8. In 1978 the church became part of the Uniting Church of Australia, and celebrated its Jubilee in November 1999. The building is built from Dry Creek sandstone with very elaborate brick work.

The third-largest religious denomination in South Australia, the Uniting Church in Australia  arose through an amalgamation in 1977 of long-standing churches. Methodists, Congregationalists and Presbyterians came together to form one denomination, but their strong traditions remain.
